Méthode progressive, Vol.3
(français / english / español)64 p., Niveau 2These progressive volumes by the Argentine Claudio Camisassa are each divided into twelve lessons, which focus on a certain key. A diverse learning resource, they contain well-known studies plus a large amount of mostly South American flavoured material by the author. Each volume opens with detailed technical exercises for both hands and, in notation, chords commonly used in the relevant keys.Volume Three introduces the keys of A, E and D major and D minor plus further material in C and G major and A and E minor, progressing from previous volumes. Sight-reading in second and fifth positions on bass strings is also Covered, not following the key orientation. Lesson One (C major) is typical of each lesson's content structure - firstly an exercise in the chosen key is presented, which I have found to be valuable sight-reading for players of varying levels, (here a running melodic line which shifts to fifth position) with the first two bars bracketed for improvisation purposes. An Andante by Carulli follows, to which, typically, Camisassa has added a teacher's part which creates an attractive duet. Developing ensemble experience (guitar duo or with flute or violin) is an important aspect of this series, and another duo, Trova, is included here with a chordal based guitar part and a syncopated single line melody. The lesson ends with sight-reading on string four in fifth position. The wealth of useful material in further lessons includes, by Camisassa, the attractive A la Maniere de Satie with impressionistic harmony, and Las Compinches, an effective Milonga for two guitars. Prelude in the style of Villa-Lobos is useful for repeated chords. Most of the material is around the grade 3 mark. Recommended.(Linda Kelsall-Barnett, Classical Guitar Magazine)
